Richwoods Wins 2008 Event
July 13, 2008
Peoria Richwoods defeated Bettendorf to claim the 2008 Justin Sharp Memorial Shootout championship. The 32 team event went very well with many competitive games this year. Brackets with final results are available on the main page or at the "Past Results" link.

2008 Brackets Adjusted

The 2008 bracket has been adjusted with two teams filling in as replacements. Cedar Rapids Xavier and Midland have filled the 32 team field this past week. The updated brackets are posted on the "Schedule" page.

The 2008 bracket for the Sharp Shootout is now posted on the website. The brackets can be accessed on the main page or on the "Schedule" page.
The field looks very strong again this year, and numerous college coaches are planning to attend. Fans will get a great weekend of basketball by coming out and supporting a great cause.

2007 Finalists Fare Well in 07-08

The two teams that battled for the 2007 Sharp Shootout title, Washington (IL) and Cedar Rapids (IA) Kennedy, each finished the 2008 regular season in 4th place in their respective state tournaments.
In addition, Southeast Polk (4A) and Davenport Assumption (2A) reacherd the Iowa state quarterfinals. This again continues to build the reputation of this event as one of the finest around!

Washington Wins 2007 Event

Washington defeated Cedar Rapids Kennedy in overtime to claim the 2007 Justin Sharp Memorial Shootout. This year's event was one of the most competive yet with many top level teams playing some heated battles during the two day event. All of the results can be reached from the Shootout homepage.

2007 Pairings Announced
July 11, 2007
The pairings for the 2007 Justin Sharp Memorial Shootout have been announced and posted. 32 teams will tip it off at 12:00 on Friday, July 13th. A number of colleges have called to get information, so coaches should be in attendance to see the talent participating this year.
Fans are encouraged to come out and see the action. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students. Action will be from 12:00 to 8:00 on Friday and 9:00 to 9:00 on Saturday at both Rock Island High School and Augustana College's PepsiCo Center.

Underclass Shootouts Announced

This year there will be both sophomore and freshmen shootouts. The sophomore shootout will expand to 16 teams and will be held June 30th at Rock Island High School. For the first year, there will be a freshmen shootout. It will be held on Thursday, July 12th and will have eight teams participating.

2007 Shootout Field Taking Shape

The invitations for the 2007 Sharp Shootout have been sent out, and the field is starting to take shape. Many teams will be returning from last year, while others are being inviited to complete the 32 team bracket.
Peoria Richwoods, an Illinois Class AA "Sweet 16" from last season is the first new team to commit to the 2007 Sharp Shootout. A number of other top programs should be making commitments soon.

2006 Shootout Teams Have Strong Regular Seasons

A number of last year's Sharp Shootout participants had great success during the 2006-2007 basketball season. Congratulations to the following teams:
Bettendorf ended the season as the Iowa Class 4A Runners-up.
Rockford Boylan reached the Illinois Class AA Elite 8 in Peoria.
Urbandale reached the Iowa 4A State Tournament.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy reached the Iowa 4A State Tournament before being eliminated by Bettendorf.
Iowa City West reached the Iowa 4A State Tournament and lost to Bettendorf.
Byron reached the Illinois Class A Sweet Sixteen and ended the season 29-2.
Washington ended the regular season ranked #3 in Class AA in Illinois. They won the Regional and were beaten in the Sectional Finals.
Rock Falls won the Regional and reached the Sectional Finals before losing to Rockford Boylan.
Rock Island won their Regional and were eliminated by Washington.

East Moline Wins Shootout
July 23, 2006
East Moline (United Township) won the third Justin Sharp Memorial Shootout with a win over Rockford Auburn. Auburn reached the championship by defeating Aurora West, and East Moline knocked off Rockford Boylan to reach the title game. Aurora West beat Boylan for 3rd place. Tournament Director Gary
Moran Will Be Missed

Gary Moran, the Justin Sharp Memorial Shootout Tournament Director, passed away May 20th. Gary had been battling amyloidosis since being diagnosed near the end of the basketball season. In addition to being instrumental in the Sharp Shootout, Gary has been very active in many Rock Island High School activities. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Iowa State Championship
Mirrors 2005 Shootout

The 2006 Iowa Class 4A State Championship was a rematch of the 2005 Justin Sharp Memorial Shootout championship game. Des Moines Hoover capped an undefeated run by beating Pleasant Valley in the title game. Last July, Hoover beat Pleasant Valley in overtime to claim the 2nd Annual Justin Sharp Memorial Shootout.

Hoover Claims Title
August 15, 2005
Des Moines Hoover came away with the Justin Sharp Memorial Shootout title with an exciting 49-47 overtime win over Pleasant Valley. Hoover ended the tournament with a 5-0 record on its way to the championship. Moline won a close battle over Rock Island, 44-43, for third place. Iowa City High ended the tournament with a 4-1 record, claiming the consolation championship. To see the complete brackets and scores, click on the Past Results link.
On an additional note, the first day of the Shootout had its share of excitement with three games decided on last second shots from at least half court!

The following colleges were in attendance at the 2004 Sharp Shootout: Kansas State, Nebraska, Indiana State, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Loyola, Eastern Illinois, Northern Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Lewis, Augustana, Dubuque, Eureka, Monmouth, Kishwaukee, Southeastern CC, Elmhurst, Ellsworth CC, Northern Iowa Area CC, Gulf Coast CC, Wisonsin-Platteville, Coe, and Cornell College. This number should grow for 2005 with the positive feedback from these coaches.

Rocks Take First Title
July 19, 2004
The Rock Island Rocks were the winners of the first Justin Sharp Memorial Shootout. The Rocks were one of the eight teams to go 2-0 in pool play to advance to the Gold Bracket of the tournament. In bracket play on Saturday, the Rocks beat Moline, Des Moines Roosevelt, and Rockford Jefferson to win the championship.
Bettendorf beat Roosevelt for 3rd place overall while Davenport Central also ended the weekend at 4-1, winning the Gold consolation championship. Freeport also went 4-1 in beating Rock Falls for the Silver Bracket title. Iowa City won the Bronze Bracket championship.

NCAA Sanctioned!

The Justin Sharp Memorial Shootout is now listed as an offially sanctioned event by the NCAA. By being sanctioned, any college coach, including Division I, may attend this event to evaluate players. Persons sitting on the team bench, coaching a participating team should review the Coaches Approval Program required by the NCAA at sanctioned events.
